I sometimes forget about putting Sloppy Joes into the dinner rotation. When I do, I tell myself I’ll remember it for next month, but I never do. I realize I really only make them maybe once a year and have always used this recipe. This recipe is so easy and doesn’t take any time at all, and blows away the canned stuff or mix in an envelope. Why not give this one a try and ditch the pre-made mix?
2 lbs. ground beef
1/2 cup bell peppers (green, red, or yellow), chopped fine
1 - 10 3/4 oz. can of condensed tomato soup, undiluted
1 - 15 oz. can of tomato sauce
2/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 Tbsp. ketchup
1 Tbsp. Worchestershire sauce
1 tsp. prepared yellow mustard
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
Salt and Pepper to taste
In a dutch oven or large sauce pan, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add in the peppers and stir. Cook for 5 minutes, drain the fat. Add the tomato soup and tomato sauce and stir to combine. Add the remaining ingredients and stir well to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Cover and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve on hamburger buns. Enjoy!
